I know I’m a bit late for this, but I just discovered that it’s National Blog Posting Month, also known as NABLOPOMO. Yikes, that’s a mouthful! NABLOPOMO is a place where you can sign up and commit to blogging every day for a month. You can meet other members, join a group, and get encouragement. It looks like you can sign up and do this every month, so what better time to start your blog than now?
If you do have a blog, there’s no reason you can’t go to NABLOPOMO and get started on the challenge now.
Who Me? Blog?
If you’re reading this and you don’t have a blog, try it out! A blog is not only a great way to share photos, stories, and struggles, and nowadays it is a must-have if you run a business or services online. It’s a great idea if you have a bricks and mortar business as well. You can potentially attract business by writing a blog about your industry, trends, issues, and problems that you’ve solved in your field. You can also promote sales and specials and help target your market.
I believe almost anyone can blog. If you have a topic you’re passionate about, or you take great photos, or something interesting happens to you on a regular basis, you’re halfway there. A blog is a great way for accountability, too, if you working on a project that requires commitment and regular work, like writing a novel. Parenting help or woes is a great topic for a blog, as are travel, creative endeavors, unique career paths, and pet ownership, to name a few.
I Can’t Afford a Blog
The good news is that blogs are free, so yes, you can! You can go to WordPress or Blogger and sign up. Then you can set up your blog, pick a template, and start posting. It’s that easy. Each service has their advantages. WordPress is powerful, with a lot of “plugins” or things that you can add on to your blog to make it more powerful. Blogger can link up to your Google account and allows you to follow and have followers listed right on your blog.
How Do I Get My Blog Noticed?
There are several ways to do this, if you are going for an audience. Of course, you can keep it private and share only with family and friends as well. WordPress and Blogger give you that option.
- Comment on other similar blogs. I’ve always found this works best.
- Social networking. Use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social networking sites to promote your current post and your overall topic. Also add these tools to you site and to your posts so people can share it.
- Post on what’s going on now. Keep your topics fresh and relevant. This is especially critical if you’re running a business blog.
- End your post in a question. Always end your post in a thought-provoking question, or as a way for other s to share their information, blogs, and ideas.
- Promote others. This is a great way to attract visitors and create topics for your blog. Pick a day of the week to showcase other blogs that you really enjoy who are relevant to your topic.
- Help someone else. “What can I do for you” always drives people, and it doesn’t have to be business driven. You can others help by sharing funny stories, giving advice on what you’ve done in a situation, or sharing your struggles. Everyone who’s been there will relate.
Are you going to start a blog? Already have one? Have questions on starting one? Share one here, and share tips for new bloggers on how to get more traffic!
